Im very pleased for the profession that Western is working with school systems to offer support for young teachers. Retention of good educators is more vital than recruiting them.

- Good mentors are needed to teach assistant principals and new principals about beginning teacher support
- Networking and communicating with other principals and assistant principals is vital
- The key role for both principals and assistant principals should be beginning teacher support and retention of teachers.
Surveys conducted by the Center for the Support of Beginning Teachers suggest that assistant principals are often charged with administrative leadership for supporting beginning teachers, but with little or no training.
Professional development for school leaders in the area of teacher induction support is integrated into the work of the Center as a means of addressing the need for building level leadership that increases teacher retention. The Center and the Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations (ELF) collaborate with school systems in the region to establish a model training program for preparing assistant principals and principals to provide ongoing instructional support and leadership to beginning teachers which can be replicated across the state.
Online resources, articles, and websites designed to offer school executives strategies to support both new and career teachers have been selected.
