What students are saying:
"I have made it my job to make sure I come every week, and with the one-on-one attention it was easier for me to understand the material."
The CAT Center now offers drop-in tutoring for several classes. No appointment is necessary; simply come to the CAT Center during the time designated for your class, and our tutors will be ready to help you. Don't forget to bring your notes, assignments, textbooks, and any questions you have about the material. Check the drop-in tutoring schedule for more information.
Small-Group Tutoring by Appointment
The CAT Center provides free, small-group tutoring sessions for many 100 and 200-level classes. Some of the disciplines in which tutoring is offered are listed below; however, tutoring may be available for additional subjects. Log in to TutorTrac to find out if tutors are available for your classes. Keep in mind that tutoring services are also offered through the University Writing Center and the Mathematics Tutoring Center. If you need help in a class but tutoring is not available, talk to your instructor. Most instructors are available to work with you outside of class. Small-group tutoring allows you to improve your understanding of course materials in a relaxed, informal environment with other students. Tutors will encourage you to articulate what you know about the subject, to talk through difficult concepts and problems, and to learn study strategies that will help you to understand and to retain course information.
Your tutor will challenge you to do your best and will expect you to attend sessions prepared, focused, and directed. Tutors are here to serve as a guide as you work to understand the concepts and to complete the work assigned in a course.
