Mountain Heritage Day

Join us for the 36th annual event,
Saturday, September 25, 2010!

Cherokee stickballHeld on WCU's campus in Cullowhee, N.C., Mountain Heritage Day is a combination old-fashioned mountain fair and showcase for Southern Appalachian music, dance and song, with the atmosphere of a big family reunion.

Admission to the festival grounds and parking are free.

Mountain Heritage Day generally attracts 15,000 to 20,000 attendees to the one-day free festival.  We host two live entertainment stages, over 150 vendors of food and juried arts and crafts, Cherokee Stickball games, Shapenote singing, a heritage encampment, chainsaw competition, children's activities and many other demonstrations and activites celebrating the regions' Appalachian mountain heritage.  We invite you to join us for a vibrant festival day here in the mountains of North Carolina!

WCU’s Mountain Heritage Center will, once again, provide demonstrations and exhibitions of traditional mountain crafts and skills such as woodcarving, basket making, blacksmithing, quilting, and weaving.
